Description
Amanda Cordelia Kimball of Rumford Center was born November 20, 1820 to David and Lucy W. Wheeler Kimball. Moses Kimball, one of the region’s earliest settlers was her ancestor.
Amanda Kimball was one of 12 children, and a very distant relative of Civil War Brevet Brigadier General William King Kimball. She was an elder sibling of William W. Kimball who later moved to Chicago, where he founded the Kimball Piano Company.
Amanda Kimball volunteered her services as a nurse during the Civil War at St. Johns’ College Hospital, General Hospital, #2, in Annapolis, Maryland. She died from typhus on February 14, 1865, and is buried in the Moses Kimball family plot in Rumford Center cemetery.
