Description
This 1946 photo shows the officers of the Dixfield Fire Department displaying some new respiratory equipment of the day.
Don Gates, James Davis, and Charles Ames formed the department in 1893. Charles Ames served as the first chief until 1931 when Olie Payne took over. Then Robert Ames, the son of Charles, assumed the office in 1937.
Pictured left to right are Olie Payne, Floyd Holt, Frank Bryant, Chief Robert Ames, Arthur Bryant, and Joe Therriault.
