Description

To commemorate the sacrifice made by Bethel men in the Civil War, a large granite monument was erected at the junction of Main and Mechanic streets, and dedicated in a well-attended public ceremony on May 30, 1908.

Purchased from the Smith Granite Company of Westerly, Rhode Island, the monument features a Union soldier standing at ease, holding his rifle.
