Description
This 1858 street map was hand-colored to outline the Portland school districts. The school district numbers were also added by hand. There are fourteen school districts listed on the map. District 14 boarders a portion of Westbrook, which eventually became Portland in 1899, after a brief time (two decades) as part of the town of Deering.
The original map was printed by J. H. Buffords Lithographers of Boston, Massachusetts.
