Description
Cabinet card full-length portrait of a young Katherine Denison (1886-1968). She was born in Portland to manufacturer Elias B. Denison, originally of Vermont, and his wife Mary Thaxter, of Maine. Handwritten on the reverse of the image is her nickname Nina. The image was taken by Portland photography studio Ye Longfellow Gallery, located at 655 Congress Street.
She married Frederick E. Gignoux in 1912. The couple's son Edward Thaxter Gignoux served as chief judge of the United States District Court of the District of Maine from 1957 to 1988, is the namesake of the U.S. Courthouse in Portland.
