Description
The roommates in this image, found in a photo album of alumni Leona Coy, entered Farmington State Normal School (F.S.N.S.) in 1921. Coy's album chronicles the adventures of this lively group and the happenings at F.S.N.S. throughout the 1921-1923 school years.
Pictured here from left to right are: Louise Kelley, Leona Coy, Eva Cummings, Alta McLean, Myrtle McLean and Arlene Plummer. All were listed as first year students and enrolled the State Normal and Training School in the 1922 Circular and Annual Catalog. Each student had 20 or more weeks of teaching experience at that time.
Two of the group, Leona and Arlene, graduated in the class of 1923. Three of them--Louise, Alta and Myrtle--did not complete their degrees, but did go on to teaching positions according the 1923 Effesseness yearbook. School records indicate Eva Cummings left to teach in Raymond, returned to take classes a few years later, and finally obtained her degree in 1928.
