Normal School students snowshoeing, Farmington, ca. 1922

Contributed by Mantor Library at UMF

Description

Farmington State Normal School students (F.S.N.S) Leona Coy (left) and Arlene Plummer were like many Farmington students who brought snowshoes with them to college for exercise and ease of traveling in winter.

Even as late as the 1950s, a pair of snowshoes was still considered a “desirable, but not necessary” item for a well-prepared F.S.N.S. student. With ample snow and plenty of local fields and woods close to campus, snowshoeing was a way for active students to spend time outdoors during the winter months.
