Description
William Widgery Thomas Jr. stands on the steps of the Spurwink District School in Cape Elizabeth. Thomas taught for one session at the school in 1857. A graduate of Bowdoin College, class of 1860, Thomas became a lawyer and eventually entered into diplomatic service during the Civil War, a career which spanned decades.
