Description
Bass Park in Bangor was used for car and horse racing. The first race held at Bass Park occurred in 1913, and was between an automobile and an aircraft where a local auto dealer, L.P. Swett in a Stutz car raced a Curtiss biplane. Charles P. Snow, in a Reo also raced that day.
Both Swett and Snow were frequent participants in Bass Park races, often in Indianapolis style autos that were popular during 1910-1920. After an auto race the track had to be groomed for harness racing.
