Race horses with keepers at Bass Park, Bangor, ca. 1915

Contributed by Bangor Public Library

Description

Owners and breeders originally created Bass Park Raceway to provide a better place to house their horses. In 1915, agricultural societies, rather than businesses, normally owned raceways.

The stables and tackrooms were located at the northwest end of the park, where keepers and farriers took care of the horses.
