Description
The Society Circus was a fundraiser in Kennebunk which was used to raise funds for playground improvements at Parsons Field in 1915.
The parade, according to contemporary press accounts, brought out a crowd of more than 6,000 spectators and was judged to be one of the most popular events in town's history. Tickets for the circus were sold out despite the fact that the large tent covered 8,000 square feet.
Visitors were reported from as far away as New York and Missouri. The net proceeds from the circus were projected at approximately $1100, a significant amount in 1915.
