Description
This manuscript map shows the plot numbers and names in a cemetery in Minot, Maine, located at the corner of Main Road and New Road. The cemetery includes and has 49 plots, with about 1/3 unassigned. Some of the legible names include David Greene, G. D. Dickenson, and John A. Brigg. The plan mentions that the burial ground is located near Lewiston Falls.
Minot was part of a larger settlement founded by the Pejepscot Proprietors. Founded in 1714, the Pejepscot Purchase Company responded to a request by the Massachusetts General Court to survey and settle the land along the southern Androscoggin River. They called the region Bakerstown, which includes present day Brunswick, Harpswell, Auburn, Lewiston, Durham, Minot, Poland and Mechanic Falls.
