Description
Farmer and Reverend Emery H. Butts (1827-1903) was a neighbor of Chansonetta’s relatives, the Trues, in New Portland. He also appears in Chansonetta’s book, The Old Table Chair where she refers to him as “Grandpa.”
Using a raking light from the right side of the image, Chansonetta highlighted Henry Butts’ white hair, beard, and shirt as he stared intently and directly at the camera.
