Description
Chansonetta Stanley Emmons photographed and possibly included this lantern slide of a stream rushing through dense woodland in a slide show she compiled for audiences across New England. Her daughter, Dorothy, is believed to have hand-tinted all the slides. Emmons often documented rural life and natural scenery in the early 20th century.
Born in Kingfield in 1858, Emmons traveled throughout New England and beyond, focusing on rural life and landscapes. Her photography took her to the Carolinas, New England, Colorado, Canada, and Europe, earning her recognition as a pioneer in early 20th-century photography.
