Description
This formal portrait of Ward Dalbier, a Grand Army of the Republic veteran, was taken by Chansonetta Stanley Emmons. Dalbier was born in Kingfield, Maine, and served with the 28th Maine Infantry from 1862-1863.
The photographer, accompanied by her daughter Dorothy, traveled across New England, the Carolinas, Canada, and Europe, driven by her passion for photography. She earned recognition for capturing rural life and scenery in the early 20th century through her photographs. It is likely that Chansonetta specifically made this image for inclusion in a public slideshow.
