Description
Sadie Gowen owned the farmhouse at 79 Main Street with a working dooryard: an open carriage barn door covered with wire to enclose some chickens, and a clothesline stretching from the barn to the porch. Having lived here for several years, Sadie was able to enjoy the well-shaded porch covered with her plantings of grapevine and hollyhocks.
"Drake took this one", written beneath this postcard in its original album, suggests the horse and carriage belonged to the visiting Drake family with Mrs. Drake on the far left and her toddler on the steps. The second woman from the left is likely Sadie Gowen.
