Description
The Champlain Society was a group of Harvard students who camped and studied the natural sciences on Mount Desert Island in the 1880s.
A select group of the Champlain Society researched marine Invertebrata at Somes Sound, led by member Charles W. Townsend. This report summarized their findings in August, 1880, where Townsend noted the findings were "my first definite study in that direction, and so I am able to give but an imperfect report of the subject."
