School records indicate that the Lincoln Academy Class of 1898 included class members Bertha Chaney, Joseph Chapman, Edna Chase, Eldred Cunningham, Sarah Flye, William Flye, Theron Hatch, B.E. Kelly, Augusta Keene, George Kenniston, Jr., and Geneva King. However, the specific identities of the individuals in this photo cannot be identified.
The class motto was “Possunt Quia Posse Videntur”. The class colors were green and white. The valedictorian was Sarah Flye and the salutatorian was Bertha Chaney.
Lincoln Academy in Newcastle was chartered in 1801 by the General Court of Massachusetts 'for the purpose of promoting Piety, Religion, and Morality' and is the fourth oldest secondary school in Maine that is still in existence as of 2022.
