Description
A man navigated his rowboat "Jimmy" though the street in the 1936 flood that killed five people and caused $25 million worth of damage in Maine. 153 people died in the Northeast due to the flooding.
There were two separate storms in March bringing 8-18 inches of rain to southern and central Maine. In addition, these storms melted a heavy ice pack from a particularly cold and snowy winter.
This story dominated the front pages of The Portland Evening Express from March 12 through March 26.
