Description
Anthony Edward “Tony Mack” McDonough emigrated to Maine from Roundstone, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. He was the son of John “Daniel” McDonough and Barbara J. Connolly. After several years in Portland, the family moved to Lewiston.
Anthony trained as an undertaker in Boston and operated a funeral home in Lewiston until his death in 1913. He became involved in city politics, serving as City Marshall of Lewiston. He was also an avid sportsman with a particular interest in baseball.
A son, John A. McDonough, served in the administration of Gov. Louis Brann, as director of the Federal Emergency Relief Administration in Maine. A daughter, Ellen Therese, taught school in Lewiston.
