Description
In 1897 Sarah Achorn (1875-1962) married Horace T. Weeks (1870-1928) of Jefferson. Her father William and her Uncle Charles became business partners in the Achorn Bros. store that same year. Within a few years Sarah and Horace had their own store diagonally across Main Street, called, H. T. Weeks & Co.
Sarah was a correspondent for the weekly Lincoln County News for several years, and in 1953 was presented an award for her writing by the New England Weekly Press Association. She was a charter member of the Pine Tree Rebekah Lodge; an organist at the Coopers Mills Baptist Church; an assistant to her husband when he was Postmaster 1905-1914 and 1924-1928; and later she had a gift shop in her home.
At the time of her death, Arch Soutar, columnist for the Lincoln County News, described her as "one of our few remaining old-time Maine weekly correspondents, alert, gracious, on-her-toes every minute, and with a whopping big sense of humor."
