Description
The bandstand for Bibber's Band, located in front of H. T. Weeks & Co. store and post office, was decorated for the Fourth of July. Dr. Charles W. Bibber (1876-1919) moved to Coopers Mills around 1911 and organized a band.
Ellen Smith Weiblen (1902-1987) wrote to the Whitefield Historical Society in 1986 that "Bibber's Band put on the only big 4th of July celebration Coopers Mills ever had . . . Charles Brann played the bass drum situated on his big tummy. James Keene played the snare drum, my uncle, Horace Weeks, played the bass cornet. Chester Keene, Earl Joslyn, played some sort of cornet. Neota Grady's father, George Fowles, was dressed as a clown with a real costume. Neota (1909-2000) was not even in school then. My uncle and aunt, Horace and Sarah Weeks, had a booth at which lemonade was sold and perhaps other things. They evidently had band caps, good ones. I found my Uncle Horace's in the top of the barn in more recent years. It was musty, but not moth eaten. It was before the days of Historical Societies and I threw it away."
Dr. Charles Bibber practiced medicine in Coopers Mills from 1912-1919; his wife Lena died shortly after moving here. Charles died suddenly, "probably heart disease", in 1919 at age 44.
The 1913 Model T touring car belonged to Horace and Sarah Achorn Weeks of H. T. Weeks & Co. store.
