Description
Walter S. Bowden bought the former H. T. Weeks & Co. store around 1920. According to the "Maine Register", it operated as the Bowden and Avery general store from 1921-1930; and as the Walter Bowden general store from 1931-1945. The only sign on the store advertised the Post Office.
In November 1920 the Lincoln County News reported that Reuben Bowden exhibited at Bowden's store a Crosby table beet which weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces. Two weeks later it reported that W. S. Bowden bought a large refrigerator in which he planned to carry a full line of meats.
The Model T cars on the far left and behind the horse and carriage both date circa 1917. The one on the left had rope for "tire chains". The two unknown cars side-by-side were a bit older than the two Model T's.
