Description
Charles Bullen Dunn fishes for brook trout in a pool on Socatean Stream, just above Socatean Falls. Socatean Stream is a northwestern tributary of Moosehead Lake.
August 29, 1887 was a tranquil day in northern Maine; calm winds are perfect conditions for casting a dry fly to tempt an unsuspecting squaretail. Brook trout of two to three pounds -- or more -- were a common catch in the Moosehead Lake region in the late 19th century for John Dunn and his sporting companions.
