Description

In 1936, the Maine State Police had a highway safety education program and, in support, bought several new white sedans in August of that year for $515 a piece. State Police Safety Education car #1 was captured in this picture with two troopers.

In a similar vein, the Portland Evening Express, on August 14th 1936, documented that Portland had a new driver safety program to counter rising accident rates. The Portland safety sedan came with a loud speaker on the roof designed to publicly embarrass drivers into better habits.
