Description
A woman showed off two pies she was making at a Hoosier cabinet, which included a flour sifter and carousel spice rack. This picture was possibly taken at the annual Portland Press Herald - Evening Express cooking school.
Hoosiers were popular stand-alone cabinets from the first half of the twentieth century, when kitchens typically didn't have built-in's. This was probably the "Beauty" model first introduced in the 1920's. To her right was a General Electric "flat top" refrigerator. In 1936, GE replaced their "monitor top" refrigerators - with the compressor sitting on top like a beehive - with "flat tops" with the compressor stored in a compartment underneath.
