Description
In 1911 Pepperell Manufacturing Company razed the ancient Laconia boardinghouses, on Laconia Street in Biddeford. With the advent of new technology and electricity, they built the Mill #13 building, a large two floor cotton weave shed, with a wing and raised roof known as a "saw tooth roof”.
The saw tooth roof was in the center of the building’s flat roof and contained sliding windows along the entire length of the building, including Mill 13-2 Wing. This allowed natural lighting needed to weave the complex designs in the cloth, and in the summer time the widows were opened to exhaust the hot air.
Mill 13-2 wing has been empty since 2009 when West-Point homes Inc. ceased operation.
