Description
The Training School for Nurses of the Queen's Hospital (later Mercy) opened on January 6, 1920, in response to the increasing demand for qualified nurses. Students resided on the hospital grounds and actively participated in student committees and groups. From 1920 to 1987, the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing provided a comprehensive nursing education, training over 2000 nurses to serve the greater Portland area. The school played a significant role in the institution's commitment to the community.
