Description
The Queen's Hospital (later Mercy Hospital) School of Nursing opened on January 6, 1920, just two years after the hospital began operations. In 1930, the first public graduation was held with four nurses receiving their diplomas. In 1948, 40 women graduated from the program. As attendance rose, the school had fall and spring entrances for students.
The entire graduating class of 1948 was as follows: Mildred Albert, Theresa Arsenault, Marion Blake, Marion Brown, Martha Callahan, Theresa Castonguay, Jean Clukey, Mary Coyne, Geraldine Estabrooks, Anne Flaherty, Regina Gorey, Martha Guest, Gertrude Guilmette, Simone Hatchy, Marjorie Howard, Ruth Hunton, Theresa Jalbert, Yvonne LaPointe, Nancy Lemieux, Prudence Libby, Margaret Mahany, Aloma Matthews, Catherine Mayberry, Elizabeth Merrow, Doris Newell, EMily Paulin, Velma Pelletier, Margaret Redlon, Marguerite Rines, Eileen Robbins, Elizabeth Robinson, Jean Savage, Palene Small, Carolyn Tarbox, Lillian Thyng, Gloria Tyndall, Alice Watson, Julia Whalen, Agnes Young.
