Description
The Border Historical Society reprinted Sir Thomas Hardy's proclamation to the citizens of Moose Island, when the British captured Eastport. Hardy gave notice to the citizens that in three days, they must take an oath of allegiance to the King of England. Otherwise, people had seven days to leave the Island, or become a prisoner of war.
The War of 1812 ended for the most of the United States in 1814, but Eastport was occupied by the British until June 30, 1818.
