Description
The nurses at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston in 1925. The only identified nurse is Alice Phillips, in the second row, to the far left.
The idea for Central Maine General Hospital originated from Dr. Edward Henry Hill, (1844-1904) a local medical professional who acknowledged the need for a general hospital in central Maine. In 1891, the hospital opened in converted private homes, near the eventual location of the Central Maine Medical Center.
