Description
National Youth Association (NYA) young men were employed during the depression to help the Town of Troy plant seedlings. The National Youth Administration was a New Deal agency sponsored by the Presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt that focused on providing work and education for Americans between the ages of 16 and 25.
The State nursery in Orono provided 25,000 Norway Pine seedlings, covered to avoid drying out before planting. These were some of first trees planted on what would become about 940 acres of a new concept called a Town Forest in Troy.
