Description

Local men were hired to selectively cut town acquired land in the post depression 1940s. Here they used two oxen to haul four-foot logs on wheel wagon from the Troy town forest woodlot.

Oxen did most of the heavy work on farms and forests until the mid 1800s. Eventually horses replaced most oxen in the late 1800s as horses were better adapted for farm equipment use and hauling produce to market.
