Description
This uncased, ninth-plate ambrotype studio portrait was taken by Portland photographer A.M. McKenney. On the reverse, the image was stamped with the photographer's name and address. While the date was handwritten on the back (August 22, 1860), the sitter is unidentified. A.M. McKenney worked at 122 Middle Street in Portland.
By 1860, the ambrotype eclipsed the daguerreotype in popularity, as a less expensive medium.
