Completion of Maine Turnpike widening, Arundel, 2004

Description

Governor John Baldacci, members of the Maine Turnpike Authority, Maine State Police, state and local officials, contractors and commuters, cut the ribbon on the final section of the Turnpike Widening and Modernization project on October 20, 2004.

The project took five years to complete in various phases. It included a third lane on 30 miles of highway, replaced 13 bridges and widened five others, widened the breakdown lanes, and created more gradual side slopes. The project was completed on time and more than $2 million under the $135 million program budget.
