Description

Guy Gannett, who created the Portland Press Herald in 1921, a paper formed by merging the Portland Daily Press and the Portland Herald, purchased the Portland Evening Express in 1925 and emphasized original photography, which focused heavily on local news and activities, across his suite of newspapers throughout the state.
