Description
Charles Colby (1861-1939) made the crewel embroidery sampler, "No Place Like Home", when he was a boy.
Colby was a farmer, carpenter and portable mill owner who had six children with his wife Annie May Perkins. Verlie, one of his daughters, recalled the many talents her father had when she was interviewed by a fellow Westport Islander. She said her father made most of the children's toys, including doll cradles, hundreds of colored wooden blocks, and game boards such as Parcheesi.
