Description
Opera singer, actor, and radio personality Lawrence Tibbett sat at the helm of his yacht, Rhoda. Tibbett sang and performed with the Metropolitan Opera and enjoyed a very successful career on the opera stage during the 1920s and 1930s. The woman at his left is unidentified.
The "Portland Evening Express" frequently ran collage-like photo essays of celebrities gallivanting in Maine—on the water, at cottages, camps, and intown. Society columns showcased a “who’s who” of summer visitors, and often focused on celebrity participation in classic Maine pastimes like sailing and camping.
