Description
Nurse E. Hayes with a young patient in an oxygen tent at Maine Medical Center. The Children's Hospital division occupied the second floor of Maine Medical Center in 1955, with 18 private rooms, 28 beds in semi-private units, a treatment room designed for young patients, and a play area. Children's Hospital, previously an independent institution that merged with Maine General Hospital and Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary to form Maine Medical Center, had its own training school for nurses, including a six month training period at New York's Bellevue Hospital and Yale University School of Nursing.
