Description
Maine General Hospital, Children's Hospital, and Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary merged to form Maine Medical Center in 1951. Construction projects expanded the campus over time, extending to Congress and St. John Streets. The Alida Leese Hall, on the far left in this image, served as the nurses' residence. Visitors and staff used the plateau area behind the buildings for parking.
