Description
Manuscript plan of Windham's original proprietors features numbered land lots corresponding to the list of owners on the right of the map. Windham was originally referred to as Marblehead or New Marblehead until its eventual incorporation as Windham in 1762. This map was created by Hugh Davis McLellan, who was a historian and author from Gorham. The title on the map is "Windham Formerly Marblehead drawn from the original plan."
Thomas Chute, who is believed to be the first settler of Windham, is shown as the 12th name on the list for property owners. The remaining 59 families listed would be the remaining settlers who were also given land grants in 1734, that led to the founding of Marblehead.
