Description
This page from "Tanner's Universal Atlas" is titled, "A New Map of Maine by H. S. Tanner" and is hand colored. The map includes roads, canals, railroads, and towns, and also shows the boundary line proposed by the King William I of the Netherlands during an unsuccessful attempt in 1831 to mediate the border dispute between Britain and the United States. The dispute would eventually be settled in 1842 by the Webster-Ashburton Treaty.
