Description
Brigadier General Jedediah Preble who was born in 1707 in York, Maine, owned this teapot. Preble fought in three wars for Great Britain and for the United States in the Revolutionary War. He died in 1784.
The teapot is varnished with black ​asphaltum, adorned with gold leaf floral, and depicts a sailing ship of the mid 1700s. The shield with the General's initials is either sterling or coin silver.
