Description
While pirating French couture designs was an old practice, in the 1950s, some U.S. manufacturers contracted and made arrangements with French designers, including Dior, to legally bring their designs to the average American woman.
A strapless, cream colored, short, bouffant-skirt prom dress with corresponding stole from the 1960s—said to be a Dior—may, or may not, be one such example. The flower sprays, while intricate, often do not match at the seams, a tell-tale sign the item is not Dior.
Made from a cream or off-white tulle cotton, the embroidered green and red floral design is carried through onto the matching stole.
