Description
This brown calico dress is an example of an everyday or 'ordinary' dress from the period. The yellow and white floral spray print is grounded against the brown cotton. The bodice has a drop shoulder, common in the 1840s and 1850s. The bishop sleeve style gathers at the cuff, with several tucks along the sleeve create a capped effect. The dress was once part of the Westbrook College historic costume collection, and transferred to Maine Historical Society in 1993.
