Description
This vibrant cape is made of turquoise wool, with a blue silk lining, and is embroidered with a vine and trapunto quilted-like grape border. A silk tasseled cord stitched at the neck acts as the cape's closure.
The cape may be for a child or adolescent, based on its short length. The item is associated with Helen Bancroft Hay, who, born in 1834, was a young girl in 1840. The family moved from Massachusetts to Portland around that same time.
