Description
A cream or ivory colored figured silk ensemble associated with Eleanor M. Hennessey (1876-1957), who graduated from Portland High School in 1896. The bodice and skirt ensemble includes detachable aspects such as the collar, sashes and bow. The bodice is constructed using figured silk with a delicate floral motif, and a sheer tissue-like material at the yoke and back. The bottom edge of the bodice is unfinished. The skirt and sashes are made from the same figured (patterned) silk.
The dress is associated with Miss Hennessy's graduation, an example of period clothing for such an occasion. Eleanor M. Hennessy worked as a book keeper after high school. She married Ernest J. Clarke in 1923.
