Description
Styled white muslin ‘lingerie’ dresses were popular during the second decade of the 20th century (1910-1920). This whitework embroidered muslin dress is made of a light, sheer cotton embroidered with floral and bow motifs. The scalloped edge of the material is folded over at the neck to create a collar. It also features a scalloped effect at the hem and cuffs.
Whitework is a technique where (typically) the embroidery thread is the same color as the fabric on which its is stitched. There are a wide variety of techniques and styles of whitework, requiring various level of skill.
