Description
Fashions from the Great Depression ranged from attractive, simple day wear to evening wear inspired by the cinema. This "Hollywood Influenced" evening gown serves as a reminder that it was still customary to wear long dresses for special, evening, and theater occasions.
This orange/rust-colored full-length sleeveless gown features a crepe fabric with a high rounded neckline and sequins arranged in a square pattern throughout the bodice, both front and back. Likely from the late 1930s, the dress showcases a large sequined bow sitting on the hips on the proper left side.
The gown has large shoulder pads filled with cotton wadding and covered in viscose rayon plain weave fabric. The back features a hook and eye closure at the top and a slit down the back. A zipper is located on the proper left side. A separate piece of fabric hangs from the bow, adding volume to the bottom of the straight skirt.
