Description
This full-length black velvet coat, designed with princess seams, likely dates to the late 1930s or early 1940s. It features a face-encircling collar, long balloon-cuffed sleeves, and a frogging closure. The worn label on the coat reads "The Coat and Suit Industry," encircled by the words "National Recovery Board," indicating that manufacturers made the coat in compliance with the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act, which regulated working conditions, age, and minimum wage.
